Karen's Story

**Our fund is running low....And now with another transplant ahead, we will need more follow-ups with copays and and alot more medicine. We still have to fly to Pittsburgh every 3 months (air fair and hotel) expenses. If anyone has any ideas for any fundraisers or anything  please contact my mom at dpoulk@dhr.ga.gov or Donnie via email at:arrowoodk@bellsouth.net.For donations please see below.

The process of organ transplantation can be overwhelming for patients and families; emotionally, physically and financially. Non-covered expenses will be immense. Even before transplant, these costs will add up quickly. Karen has already made several trips to Pittsburgh for her transplant evaluation.  Karen and her family relocated to Pittsburgh for 5 months for her surgery in December. She will have to return to Pittsburgh every TWO months for her bronc/biopsies. She returns Tuesday June 26th for the first one since being home. So they still need to raise money for those trips (flight, lodging and food). Other costs will include deductibles, co-pays, part of the surgery and the rejection medication she will take for the rest of her life. She has already met her lifetime cap on her insurance. She and Donnie are working with his office about some other insurance options. If you would like to help please see below.

** A trust fund has been set up in Karen's name to assist with the overwhelming medical expenses for this surgery. Karen and Donnie will also have to travel back and forth to Pittsburgh every two months for her bronc and biopsy. That means flying and hotel expenses again. There are 3 ways to donate:

1) Donations can be made at any Bank Of America branch. Checks should be made payable to Family Trust of Karen P. Arrowood. Account number 3340 0048 9039.

Jeannie Terhune Receives Humanitarian Awards:A special congratulations to Mrs. Jeannie Terhune. Due to her tireless efforts in fundraising for Karen's surgery Jeannie has been awarded the Georgia DHR Humanitarian Award for 2007. This will be presented to her on May 8, 2007 by the DHR Commissioner. Even bigger is that on May 9, 2007, Jeannie will be awarded the Statewide Humanitarian Award from all the agencies in the State of Georgia. Presenting this award at the Governors's Awards Luncheon program will be the Honorable Sonny Perdue; Governor of the State of Georgia. This is quite an accomplishment for Jeannie. Karen and her family congratulate and thank Jeannie for her efforts. These awards were never sought by Jeannie but are certainly well deserved.
